Torrentz.eu Shutdown: What HOOQ, An Online Movie Streaming service, has to say on this case.

Recently Internet experienced a Black Day when Torrentz, Worlds most used Torrent search engine, voluntarily shut down its service. Torrentz was one of the world's largest torrent site, used by millions of users worldwide. We can call it 'Google' of the Torrent world, since Torrentz hosted no torrents of its own, instead, it worked like a Meta-Search engine linking to other sites like KickAss, The Pirate Bay etc. Torrentz was founded in 2003 and quickly became one of the most used sites by the Torrent community.

Yesterday without any prior warning, Torrentz disabled its functionality and the site started referring to itself in past tense. The site still looks like it used to before, but the search functionality is disabled now, those who try to search torrents are greeted by a Farewell message.

“Torrentz was a free, fast and powerful meta-search engine combining results from dozens of search engines,” this is what the site refers to itself at the moment. People who try to login or search torrents on the site are greeted by this sad farewell message, which reads; “Torrentz will always love you. Farewell.”

Well, that message does mean that Torrentz has decided to stop their engine and move on, and nobody knows if this is forever or just a temporary shutdown, there was no official statement from the website. This is the second big loss for the Torrent community, after the arrest of KickAss Torrents owner & shutdown of KickAss website.

HOOQ comments on Torrentz.eu Shutdown

HOOQ is an online streaming service which lets you stream Movies & TV shows (just like Netflix) for a nominal monthly fee. Launched in January 2015 as a joint venture between Warner Brothers entertainment, Sony pictures, and Singtel, HOOQ lets you stream all content like Movies & TV shows for Rs.199 a month. After Torrentz.eu was down, and the Torrent community was mourning over the fact that it's gone, the M.D of HOOQ came forward and commented on the case of Torrentz shutdown. Below is the exact quote by the Managing Director India, HOOQ.

Mr.Salil Kapoor, Managing Director India at HOOQ, on the recent developments around the Torrentz shutdown case, said;
"Torrents became content destinations during times when popular movies and TV shows were not easily available online. But now technology and online content availability have taken a big leap with OTT services like Hooq coming into play. Such services are gaining huge popularity across the markets as we offer to download and Streaming of hit and fresh content. It, therefore, is only a natural progression that explains the disability of sites like Torrentz.eu. Since its inception, HOOQ has truly paved the way for a digital revolution in the world of entertainment in India. For a price of only Rs 249/- a month, users have access to unlimited Hollywood & Local Movies & TV Shows, which can be viewed on up to 5 connected devices. HOOQ also offers a unique offline download feature of up to five (5) titles at a time ensuring that there is always video content to be enjoyed even when users are offline or facing connectivity challenges. We truly believe that going forward, online content streaming platforms like HOOQ will be able to bridge the gap of demand for good content vis-à-vis supply for our consumers."

So as you can see, HOOQ believes that they've paved the way for the digital revolution of entertainment in India and by paying a nominal fee a month, users can stream their favorite movies & TV shows and view them on up to 5 devices at a time. This does sound good but will such services be able to overcome Torrent downloading? I don't think so but its's still good to know that such services exist and users can get access to wide range of content. That's it for now. Stay tuned.
