How to Install MIUI 8 Developer version on Xiaomi Mi4

Xiaomi has finally released the developer version of their new revolutionary OS, known as MIUI 8. The Chinese developer package & Global developer packages of MIUI 8 are now available to download from the MIUI website. MIUI 8 comes with many new features & improvements, though the appearance is somewhat same as the MIUI 7, there are still some major changes which make the new OS attractive. This will be a quick Installation guide, you can use it to download & install MIUI 8 on to your Xiaomi phone. Without wasting any time, let us begin.

Installing MIUI v8 Developer ROM on Xiaomi Mi4

Once you're here, I assume that I've read the above Disclaimer and agree to it. The flashing method given below is one of the easiest methods available.

Step 1: Backup all Data, Pictures, Videos, Contacts etc. from your phone. This is important, you might lose all your data during flashing, so make sure you've backed up all your important data before proceeding.

Step 2: Download the Latest Developer ROM from MIUI Downloads page. The ROM file is approximately 800 MB, so make sure you are using a Wi-Fi network, otherwise, carrier data charges may apply.

Step 3: Connect your device to PC and transfer the ROM zip file to your internal memory. We suggest moving the zip file to the root folder of your device, but you can transfer it anywhere you like.

Step 4: Disconnect your phone from PC. Go to Settings > About Phone > System Updates OR directly open Updater app from your home screen.

Step 5: Tap on the 'Three dotted' icon on the top-right area (see the image below)

Step 6: Now assuming that you'be backed up everything and are good to go. Tap on 'Choose Update package' option, and browse to the location where you transferred MIUI 8 zip file in Step 2.

Once you choose the file, it will automatically start Installing new MIUI 8 version on your device. Keep an eye for instructions, if they pop-up on the screen. Once you're done with everything, MIUI 8 will boot up.

Please Note, it make take a few minutes for the Installation process, also after installation, it may take several minutes for the bootup, keep patience and wait for it to finish the process.

Xiaomi has finally started rolling out Stable version of MIUI 8, soon it will be available across all Xiaomi phones, in the meanwhile you can enjoy new features of MIUI 8 using this developer ROM, also note that developer ROM gets weekly updates with new bug fixes & improvements, so keep an eye for new updates for better user experience.
